One of the main challenges in setting up a transnational trail is the issue of maintenance.  Cache owners are expected to check and maintain caches should problems be reported (eg the cache has become wet).  The large geographic distances involved in this area means that the tour must be carefully coordinated. If the tour organiser is not physically able to maintain a cache then this responsibility must be delegated. Failure to perform maintenance may lead to the cache being removed or ‘archived’ from the website.
