The key challenge for proper site management is to have sufficient resources and funding to meet the demands of increasing number of numbers of visitors. The increasing numbers of tourists arriving at Thingvellir National Park has in recent years surpassed the funding and resources provided for key site management issues detailed in the management plan:
- Enlarging parking facilities for private cars.
- Enlarging parking facilities for commercial busses and trucks
- Enlarging the Visitor Centre at the main viewpoint Hakid
- Maintaining paths and walksways to keep up with increasing number of tourists.
