In the Scottish education system, the Curriculum for Excellence asks that schools give pupils the opportunity to develop Skills for Learning, Skills for Life and Skills for Work.
Dingwall Academy aims to provide pupils with the opportunities and experiences that will allow them to develop the four capacities of a curriculum for excellence.
- Successful learners
- Confident individuals
- Responsible citizens
- Effective contributors
In S1 and S2 (11-14 years), in addition to following a common course, pupils also follow four interdisciplinary courses throughout the session. These courses have a strong practical base and encourage pupils to make links between subject areas. The Curriculum for Excellence recognises that pupils will also lean through their involvement though the wider achievements in school and in the community.
One of these electives is the ‘Dingwall Detectives’ which focusses on local history and geography but also includes elements of maths, social history, research, economics, government and justice and art.
